About Isabella's work
Through my photography, I aim to explore mental health and the way it impacts us. In an increasingly strange world, I wanted to focus on the still moments that remind us to breathe.
1 in 10 young people suffer from mental health issues, and in these uncertain and stressful times, it is hard to remember to unwind and take a moment. Through my work, I wanted to capture the moments that remind us to breathe and take a break from the stresses of day-to-day life. I began this series of images by looking at a lost sense of self and how mental illness such as depression and disassociation can cause one to lose sight of who they are and their space in the world. However, as the world continued to change, I started to focus on any semblance of calm normality that I could find, and thus spent a lot of time in nature, exploring the park and allotments near my flat. This time spent outdoors reminded me of my childhood and the simpler and more innocent times. Through my walks, I found that there are still calm and beautiful moments to be had, ones that can remind us that life continues and still matters.
